Softball Drops Series Opener to Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. - The Sewanee softball team got to within a run of the Majors of Millsaps, but ultimately fell, 8-3, Saturday night at the Millsaps Softball Complex.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Majors scored once in the second and three in the third to lead 4-0 after three innings of play.

-Sewanee's bats came alive in the fourth. Rachel Hoffman and Peri Prestwood recorded back-to-back doubles. Hoffman drove in two runs, scoring Hanna Judycki and Taylor Wagner.

-Leading 4-3, the home team responded with four runs in the fourth inning to seal the contest.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Rachel Hoffman recorded a double and two RBI en route to a 2-for-3 appearance at the plate.

-Kendell Goodrum (0-6) went the distance in the circle, allowed seven earned runs.

MILLSAPS KEY STATISTICS
-Lindsey Osbon, Mackenzie Johnson, Emily Cook and Karlie Galloway each posted a multi-hit game. Galloway drove in three runs.

-Amber Funderburk (2-3) pitched four innings, allowing three runs on three hits.

UP NEXT
The series finale is set for Sunday, as the teams will play a doubleheader.
