Season Ends in SAA Semifinals for Men’s Lacrosse

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's lacrosse team saw its season come to an end in the semifinals of the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Men's Lacrosse Tournament against the regular season champions in Rhodes, 13-7, Friday afternoon from Crain Field.

-Sewanee got out to a 2-0 lead 90 seconds into the contest thanks to Daniel Burnum and a man-up goal by Mitchell Ryan.

-The Lynx responded by scoring five of the next six goals to lead 5-3 after one quarter.

-In the second, it was a defensive battle, but the home team pushed the lead to 6-3 at the break.

-The Tigers, with goals by Henry Burns and Ryan, cut the deficit to 6-5 with 11:45 left in the third stanza.

-However, the Lynx added goals after Sewanee made it a one-goal affair on three different occasions in the third period. The Lynx led 9-7 after 45 minutes of play.

-In the final quarter, the Lynx put the contest away by scoring four goals and limiting the Tigers to no goals on six shots.

-Cameron Acuff and Mitchell Ryan scored twice for Sewanee in the contest.

-Ryan Stubits won 19-of-23 face offs and scooped up 13 ground balls in the contest. Playing in his final collegiate game, the Mullica Hill, N.J. native finishes his career with 721 face off wins, both a school and conference record, as he won 66.2% of the opportunities.

-His 282 wins in 2019 are also a school and conference record.

-Bryce Womack (6-5) saved five shots in 39:46 between the pipes.

-Karl Van Blargan scored four shots to lead the Lynx.

-Addison Mueller recorded the hat trick with three goals on eight shots.

-Cameron Link (11-3) saved 12 shots in the win.
