Poole Records Hat Trick as Men’s Soccer Blanks Third Straight Opponent

SEWANEE, Tenn. - The Sewanee men's soccer team extended their winning streak to three matches and their unbeaten streak to five after the team's third 3-0 straight victory on Saturday afternoon at Puett Field. The Tigers earned the team's third straight clean sheet with the Quakers of Guilford College.

-The Tigers had ample opportunities to get the opening goal in the first 45 minutes. Sewanee had 12 shots to Guilford's three, but it was a scoreless draw at the break.

-In the second half, Evan Poole went to work. In the 50th minute, the sophomore found Thompson Schollaert's pass to make it a 1-0 advantage.

-Nearly two-plus minutes later in the 52nd minute, Poole found the back of the net again thanks to a pass from Austin Young in the box.

-The icing on the cake was the hat trick for the Birmingham, Ala. native. In the 86th minute, after Schollaert attempted a shot to get the keep away from the box. The ball ricocheted from the Quaker's keeper to Poole who found nothing but net to seal the match.

-Sewanee, for the match, had 20 total shots, and the defense held Guiflord to nine shots.

-Evan Poole led the Tigers with six total shots, four on goal.

-Thompson Schollaert added four shots and an assist.

-James Murray (5-1-1) recorded his third straight clean sheet and added four saves. The junior improved his conference-leading save percentage to .892, while shrinking his goals-against average to 0.42 per match, also a league-best.

-Ricky Aguilar had three shots to lead the Quakers, one on goal.

-Zack Van Kampen saved six shots for Guilford, but he suffered the loss in full time.

Sewanee remains at home for a key midweek matchup with the Emory Eagles Wednesday night from Puett Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. on the pitch.
