No. 18 Tigers roll into SAA semifinals with sweep of Hendrix

CONWAY, Ark. (April 21, 2017) – The Sewanee men's tennis team opened its drive for its fifth straight Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament Championship with a 6-0 win against Hendrix, Friday.

The Tigers advance to the semifinals with a 19-3 overall record. Sewanee has won three straight matches and are a combined 11-2 in contests played away from the Domain.

Sewanee opened by sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1 doubles, Jack Gray and Alejandro Becker defeated Karthik Garimella and Ian McVinney 8-0 while at No. 2 Andres Carro and Jordan Brewer rolled past Luke Lefler and Kristian Lenser, 8-2.

At No. 3, Aubrey Davis and Fletcher Kerr topped Daniel Habenicht and Kiran Chakka, 8-3.

In singles, Sewanee kept rolling. No. 24 Avery Schober hammered Garimella at No. 1, 6-4, 6-1. Davis defeated Lenser at No. 3, 6-2, 6-0 while Dane Hawthorne earned a 6-2, 6-0 win against Daniel Sweeney at No. 6.

Sewanee returns to action on Saturday for the semifinals.
