Centre Defeats Softball in Series Opener

DANVILLE, Ky. - The Sewanee softball team suffered a 15-4 defeat to the hands of Centre College Friday night at the Centre Softball Field.

Final Score: Centre (2-8, 1-5) 15, Sewanee (0-12, 0-6) 4
Winning Pitcher: Amanda Morgan (2-5)
Losing Pitcher: Kendell Goodrum (0-9)

-After Centre recorded a run in the bottom of the first, Sewanee responded with a run to even the score in the top of the second. Rowan Jordan brought Katie Roth home on an RBI groundout.

-However, the Colonels' bats came to life in the bottom half of the frame, scoring five runs in the inning.

-Trailing 6-1 in the top of the third, Sewanee pushed the deficit back to two runs with a three-run frame. Peri Prestwood started the inning with a leadoff dinger.

-Later, Charlsey Shirey and Kendell Goodrum recorded RBI to make it a 6-4 affair.

-However, the Colonels offense would be too much for Sewanee, as they scored four runs in the third and five in the fourth.

-Peri Prestwood and Charlsey Shirey each recorded a hit and RBI in the contest. Prestwood's hit was a long one for her second homer of the season.

-Kendell Goodrum (0-9) suffered the defeat for Sewanee, allowing eight earned runs in 2.2 innings.

-Riley McCue posted a 2-for-4 night with a home run and three RBI.

-Amanda Morgan (2-5) tossed 2.2 innings, allowing four hits and runs each, two of the runs earned.

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday to conclude the weekend series.
