Zechman Becomes New Career Assist Leader, Offense Comes to Life in 17-8 Triumph over DePauw

SEWANEE, Tenn. - There is a new leader atop the Sewanee record books as Grace Zechman becomes the all-time assists leader in program history, as the Tigers defeated DePauw, 17-8, Wednesday night at Puett Field, to snap a three-game losing streak.

HOW IT HAPPENED
-Both teams traded the first four goals in the contest, but with 20:15 left in the first half, Preston Cooper went to work, scoring two goals in nearly a two-minute span to give the homeTigers the 4-2 lead.

-DePauw would respond later in the half as they score four of the final five goals of the half. After Sewanee reclaimed the lead with a Mary Kate Myers goal with 12:21 left in the opening period, the visiting Tigers netted two goals to take a 7-6 lead into the locker room.

-Sewanee came out striking in the second half, as they score seven goals in the first 10 minutes to seal the contest.

-The Tigers outscored their opponents, 11-1, in the second half.

NEW LEADER ATOP THE SEWANEE RECORD BOOKS
-With a career-high nine assists in the win, Grace Zechman becomes the all-time leader in program history in assists. The junior currently has 88 career assists after her performance on Wednesday night.

-Coming into the contest third all-time on the list with 79, she surpasses Ellie Murphy's (C'15) 85 with 22:20 left in the second half.

-With 42 assists this season, she also surpassed the record for most assists in a season. She toppled the previous high of 34 set Murphy and Page Carpenter (C'12). 

-The Lancaster, Pa. native is ranked third for the most assists in a season in Southern Athletic Association history.

-Entering the week tied for 26th all-time among active NCAA Division III student-athletes in assists, she will look to chase down Maggie Rippeto of Rhodes, who holds the SAA record for assists in a career with 134.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Preston Cooper scored four times on five shots to lead the scoring for Sewanee.

-Catherine Crigler and Sarah Strand each added three goals each. Strand also took down six draw controls.

-Brooke Winfield forced seven turnovers and scooped up eight ground balls. On offense, she scored twice.

-Caroline Roncalli (2-0) earned the win thanks to eight saves in almost 36 minutes.

-After allowing DePauw to 13 shots in the first half, the defense limited the visitors to eight total shots, while the Sewanee offense shot 11-of-22 in the second half.

DEPAUW KEY STATISTICS
-Grace Clarke and Emily Howard each scored twice for DePauw.

-Kathryn Hopkins (2-6) saved eight shots between the pipes.

The month-long homestand for Sewanee will conclude Sunday with a Southern Athletic Association showdown with Berry.
