Volleyball Sweeps Emory & Henry and Salem in Tri-Match

EMORY, Va. - The Sewanee volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Sunday with back-to-back sweeps of Emory & Henry and Salem in a tri-match hosted by Emory & Henry on Sunday from the J.R. King Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED, EMORY & HENRY
-Sewanee cruised to a straight-set victory over the Wasps, as the team posted a .500 attack percentage (12-3-18) in the first set and a .464 (15-2-28) in the third set.

-After taking the first two sets easily, Emory & Henry had a lead early, posting a 12-7 lead.

-Sewanee responded with five straight points to tie the match at 12 points apiece, led by a Stephanie Price kill that evened the contest.

-After the Wasps regained the lead briefly, 14-12, the Tigers went on a 9-3 run to lead 18-15. Despite an attempted rally by the Wasps, the Tigers fended off the hosts with a 25-21 set victory.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Olivia Nichols let the attack with 11 kills on a .667 attack percentage, committing one error.

-Destiny Stewart and Stephanie Price each recorded eight kills.

-Anna Ball and Constance Connolly each had four service aces.

EMORY & HENRY KEY STATISTICS
-Marigrace Grow led the Wasps with eight kills, while Lauren Coolidge had nine digs to lead the category.

HOW IT HAPPENED, SALEM
-After cruising to a 25-8 and 25-13 set victories to start the contest, the Spirits played competitively with the Tigers. Trailing 17-14, Salem scored six of the next seven points to lead 20-18.

-However, the Tigers came back to reclaim the lead, 21-20, thanks to three straight attack errors by the Spirits. That sparked a 7-2 run to seal the set, 25-22, and the match.

-The Sewanee defense held Salem to an attack percentage of .009 (21-20-112) on the day, including a -.069 (3-5-29) mark in the first set and a -.021 (9-10-47) percentage in the third set.

SEWANEE KEY STATISTICS
-Ellie Pedersen had a .615 attack percentage on eight kills in 13 attacks, as she did not commit an error.

-Destiny Stewart had 11 kills to lead Sewanee and added seven digs.

-Lilly Reilly notched 11 points on the day thanks to five kills and a career-best six aces in the contest, as she added 15 digs.

SALEM KEY STATISTICS
-Taylor Moulton led all Salem attackers with five kills and 13 digs.

UP NEXT
Sewanee will next turn its attention to the 2019 Southern Athletic Association Volleyball Tournament, hosted on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College. The Tigers, who earned the 4-seed, will face Millsaps in the final match of the quarterfinal round on Friday evening at 7 p.m. from the Bill Battle Coliseum.
